Characterization of microbial communities in raw and homogenized bentonite samples

چکیده
World-wide appreciated strategy for the management and treatment of high level and long lived radioactive waste is to dispose it in a deep and stable geological formation. Microbial community present in the host or buffer material may compromise the effective performance and safety of waste disposal system. In the Czech Republic, bentonite from Černý vrch locality is planned to be used as a buffer material. Therefore, microbial community was analysed in two bentonite samples (homogenized and raw bentonite) from this source.16S rRNA gene was amplified targeting the variable V4 region and sequencing was performed using Ion Torrent platform. Both bentonite samples were inhabited by relatively similar bacteria. Beta and Alpha-proteobacteria dominated both samples. Moreover, chemolithotrophs including Thiobacillus, Gallionella and Nitrosomonas capable of oxidising NH3, Mn, Fe and S were also present.

Mineralogical and rheological characterization of bentonites in Momen Abad Area, Eastern Iranian bentonite zone, to be Used in Drilling Industry
Momen Abad mining district is a part of Eastern Iranian bentonite zone, located in Eocene-Oligocene volcanic belt. Mineralogical study of bentonites by XRD method introduced smectite and cristobalite as major mineralogical phases and plagioclase, alkali feldspar, paragonite, zeolite (heulandite and clinoptilolite), mica-illite, and quartz as minor phases. SEM imaging of bentonites shows that pl...

Mineralogy and chemical composition of Deh Mohammad, Shirgesht, Chah Cam-1 and Chah Cam-2 bentonite deposits were studied in detail. Tests for foundry moulds uses carried out on raw and processed. Deh Mohammad with 300000 tons reserve is the biggest deposit. Deh Mohammad consists of 75 – 95% montmorillonite, 5 - 25% cristobalite, 0 -3% calcite, and less than 1.5% halite. The colloidal index for...

During last century, waste water of gold mine has accumulated heavy metals such as lead, zinc and cadmium in Zarshuran region soil, and thus has increased epidemic disease in this region drastically. The purpose of this research was to reduce the mobility and bioavailability of zinc, lead and cadmium in rhizosphere of sunflower grown in soil around the mine by inorganic sorbents. A pot experime...
